Ben & Jerry's Free Cone Day 2016

Today is a beautiful day for food lovers. For starters, it's National Grilled Cheese Day, but there's more dairy-filled cause to celebrate: the annual Free Cone Day at Ben & Jerry's.

From noon to 8 p.m., scoop shops around the country are doling out free ice cream cones to happy customers, as they've been doing for the past 37 years. They've put together a compelling list of reasons why this is the best holiday of all time, like asking "what other holiday lets you show up to the party uninvited, wearing anything you want, and still gives you a gift?" Say no more.

Now's the time to try a new flavor, since you have no monetary stakes on the line. And though you can get only one cone at a time, you're welcome to go through the line as many times as you'd like during the eight-hour block.

Long lines are to be expected anytime free and ice cream are in the same sentence, so try one of Ben & Jerry's ideas for how to entertain yourself while you wait. But they forgot our favorite: Take along a pint of Phish Food to help pass the time.
