The World's 50 Best 2016 Restaurant Winners

Relæ's Christian Puglisi hasn't spent the past few days in New York City just to sate late-night instant ramen binges post-takeover at Wildair, and Osteria Francescana chef (and Chef's Table season one star) Massimo Bottura isn't here simply to side-hug chef friends and dance on Eleven Madison Park's tabletops.

Rather, the world's greatest chefs have converged upon the Big Apple for one thing: to find out who claimed a coveted spot on the hallowed World's 50 Best Restaurants list. And it all came to a head last night at the restaurant awards announcement.

Controversy aside, it's still the summer blockbuster of restaurant awards season, with April Bloomfield providing the snacks while guests literally rub elbows with chefs (and convince them to take selfies with them). Things got interesting with Noma knocked down to fifth on the list, home turf favorite Estela making its debut—and EMP in the top three—Lima in the limelight with Central coming in at number four and Maido making the biggest jump from number 44 to 13.
