Here's What The White House Kitchen Stocks For President Biden
Though he's from Wilmington, Delaware (per Food & Wine), President Joe Biden has called Washington D.C. his home for many years. Throughout his presidency and vice presidency, he's gotten up close and personal with the city's restaurant scene, visiting different diners, taco joints, upscale eateries, and his famous favorite ice cream spot, Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, Eater reports. Though Eater reveals that he once ordered lamb moussaka and tuna tartare at Mediterranean-Latin restaurant Imperfecto, according to the Washingtonian, President Biden typically isn't an adventurous eater. When he eats out, it's usually for Italian food or pizza, and if it's not that, he chooses a hamburger or sandwich.
But what does the president eat when he's home at the White House? Despite having a team of chefs and a commercial kitchen at his disposal, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden told Parade that her husband still prefers to keep it simple. "He's pretty much a basic eater," she shared of his eating habits.
The White House kitchen is stocked with a specific selection of food
From President Richard Nixon's cottage cheese and ketchup breakfast, to Ronald Reagan's jelly bean snacking habit, and George W. Bush's cheeseburger pizzas, U.S. Presidents have a history of making interesting requests of their kitchen staff, Insider shares. On the other hand, President Biden only has three requirements for his pantry: Ketchup, peanut butter, and jelly, Dr. Biden shared with Parade.
Of course, the president eats more than just peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and he assumedly uses other condiments besides ketchup. New York Magazine reports that his usual lunch is soup and a chopped salad with grilled chicken, and for dinner, a simple pasta with red sauce, which he enjoys like clockwork at 7 p.m. According to former caterer Christopher Freeman, President Biden's food preferences also require the kitchen staff to stock the kitchen with vanilla chocolate-chip Häagen-Dazs ice cream, Special K cereal, sliced cheese, sliced bread, and at the very least, six eggs, a garden-fresh tomato, and two apples. As for beverages, President Biden loves his orange Gatorade.
