A New Boozy Canned Topo Chico Beverage Is Coming
For years, beer dominated the alcohol-in-a-can market, but in recent years hard seltzers and ready-to-drink cocktails have taken the world by storm, often offering fewer calories or by taking the work out of making a mixed drink. According to data collected by Statista, the hard seltzer segment was expected to have $16.36 billion in global sales in 2022. Going forward, sales are anticipated to increase annually by 33.94%. According to data from Statista, although hard seltzers may be sold around the world, they are most popular in the United States, which reported sales of a little over $14 million in sales during 2022.
Of the hard seltzers on the market, a Tasting Table survey found that White Claw remained the most popular, with 39.46% of respondents favoring it over competitors Truly, High Noon, Topo Chico, Vizzy, and Bon & Viv. The popularity of ready-to-drink cocktails has also continued to increase. According to data from Grand View Research, the value for ready-to-drink cocktails in 2021 was $782.8 million and is expected to grow at a rate of 13.4% from 2022 to 2030.
Topo Chico to launch canned cocktails
According to an announcement from Topo Chico's parent company Molson Coors Beverage Company on September 29, a line of canned spirits beverages is set to hit store shelves in 2023. Topo Chico Spirited flavors will be influenced by tequila- and vodka-based beverages, although specific flavors have not yet been announced. The lineup of flavors, however, will be inspired by drinks available in bars and restaurants.
The launch of Topo Chico Spirited will be part of an expanded agreement with The Coca-Cola Company, per the announcement, which has worked to distribute and grow the line of Topo Chico hard seltzers with Molson Coors. "Taking inspiration from the popular cocktails made in bars and restaurants today, Topo Chico Spirited will bring something completely different to our aisle," said David Coors, Molson Coors' vice president of next-generation beverages. "We believe Topo Chico Spirited will shake up the canned cocktail space with unparalleled flavors and a legacy rooted in the iconic 125-year-old master-brand."
According to the announcement, Topo Chico Spirited will be made with 100% spirits. Molson Coors has also created Simply Spiked Lemonade and Topo Chico Hard Seltzer in flavors such as Prickly Pear, Tropical Pineapple, and Signature Margarita.
