25 Braum's Ice Cream Flavors, Ranked Worst To Best

Plenty of ice cream shops offer a wide array of flavors to choose from, but perhaps no frozen dessert chain can boast such an interesting choice of flavors as Braum's. The ice cream-fast food staple has some seriously incredible options in its ranks, including many fruit- and chocolate-infused scoops. But when you have so many different flavors to choose from, how can you ensure that you're getting the best of the best? Of course, you can always take a guess or try every sample in the store, but if you want an easier way of deciding what to order, this ranking may help.

We started with our least-coveted flavors and gradually worked our way up to the best of the best. However, you should keep in mind that everyone's palate is different. Who knows? You may like one of our least favorites. Keep an open mind, and don't be afraid to try something new — Braum's is the perfect place to do just that.

25. Dream Cooler

For those who love the orange-flavored dreamsicles we all ate during the summer as kids, there is perhaps no Braum's ice cream flavor as glorious as the Dream Cooler. But for those who want to gag when they even think of them, this option is really, really not going to be your thing. It captures that orange-y, creamy flavor perfectly, in all its seemingly artificial glory.

Personally, we think that this one is a dud, and they could discontinue it completely without even making us bat an eye. But if you're into orange ice cream, go for it! You'll probably love every bite.

24. Peppermint

There are some people who can't get on board with mint chocolate chip ice cream, and we totally understand. Mint isn't for everyone. So we don't know why Braum's had to go ahead and make peppermint-flavored ice cream. Frankly, this flavor just tastes like sweet toothpaste. We appreciate the addition of the peppermint candies throughout, as it adds an interesting texture that makes things somewhat less toothpaste-y.

That said, it's still not a flavor we would ever go out of our way to order — not even during the holiday season. It may be one of the prettier flavors of the bunch, but it's not worth the Colgate-like flavor profile.

23. Birthday cake

If there's one ice cream flavor at Braum's that looks downright unappetizing, it's the birthday cake. Its bright blue color is shocking — and not in a good way. Sure, we love the creativity, but is there really a reason they had to pump this flavor full of artificial coloring? There are hunks of pound cake in a scoop, which we actually really like. They add a lovely texture and make the dessert feel more substantial. However, we're not fans of the marshmallow ribbon that weaves its way through the bright blue ice cream.

While it's certainly not the worse flavor Braum's offers, it's still not one we're excited about.

22. Butter brickle

There are some Braum's flavors we don't like that just don't taste especially good. And then there are others that don't taste like much of anything at all. That's the case with the butter brickle. The pieces of candy in the ice cream are basically just sugar and butter with a few almonds tossed in for a bit of texture. When combined with the sweetness of the ice cream, the candy barely stands out at all. What you're left with is a vaguely crunchy dessert that offers nothing but lots and lots of sugar.

This flavor is easy to forget, even after you've eaten a whole scoop.

21. Strawberry

We all love a classic when it's done well, but when it comes to the strawberry ice cream at Braum's, that's not exactly what you're going to get. The bright pink color comes from artificial coloring more than it does from the actual pieces of fruit you'll find in the dessert. While there is some real strawberry in there, it's not enough to provide the tartness that tastes so good when contrasted with the sweetness of the ice cream itself.

Overall, this flavor isn't terrible, but it is a bit lackluster. We've definitely had better strawberry ice cream elsewhere.

20. Chocolate chip chocolate

Don't get us wrong; we love chocolate — like really, really love it. But that doesn't mean it's impossible to go overboard on the flavor. That's exactly the problem with Braum's chocolate chip chocolate ice cream. The base is already extremely rich with a deep, dark flavor profile that will leave you satisfied after only a few spoonfuls. But then the chain adds in the chocolate chips on top of that, and it's honestly an overwhelming amount of chocolate.

While there are worse things in the world to have too much of, we think there are much better chocolate-based flavors available at Braum's.

19. Fudge ripple

Do you like vanilla ice cream? Do you like soft, sweet fudge? If so, the fudge ripple flavor may not be a bad choice when you take a trip to Braum's. This recipe includes a vanilla ice cream base with fudge that weaves its way through. It's a great combo that we could keep coming back to time and time again.

So why didn't we rank the fudge ripple higher? It all comes down to the fact that this is such a simple recipe. It's the kind of ice cream you could find pretty much anywhere. And since there are some real standouts at Braum's, we probably wouldn't waste our time on a standard flavor like this.

18. Gingerbread

There comes a time in the year when you want everything you eat to feel festive. That may be the best time to snag some of Braum's gingerbread ice cream. We appreciate that the chain decided to go off the rails and try something you don't find at every ice cream shop. But did it come out a success?

If you love gingerbread, there's a good chance you'll enjoy the caramel ribbon and bits of spice cake that give this ice cream some texture and a pop of flavor. That said, it gets old after a few bites. This is the kind of flavor you would probably only want to indulge in once a year, if that.

17. Brownie batter

Here's another solid option for the diehard chocolate lovers out there: Braum's brownie batter ice cream. This one, like the chocolate chip chocolate, has a bit too much cocoa flavor for our tastes. However, the chunks of brownie add a lovely texture that breaks up the monotony of all of it. Plus, the brownie ice cream is a bit lighter than the plain chocolate stuff.

It's still not our favorite because there could have been more complexity and variety in the flavor profile, but for true chocolate lovers, it'll probably be a win. You just probably won't want more than a single scoop.

16. Pumpkin

Pumpkin spice lovers, you've won again. The pumpkin ice cream at Braum's is a seasonal favorite that people will be all over. Granted, the flavor isn't that strong — you're not going to be getting that super intense pumpkin-y flavor that you get from other pumpkin products. But we kind of like that.

This flavor doesn't stick out as one of our favorites, but it's creamy, light, and mild, which makes it a versatile option that pretty much everyone can get behind. It's the kind of ice cream we'd love to add to a slice of pumpkin pie with some whipped cream on top. You should order this one at least once every fall.

15. Peanut butter with Snickers

Few things are more glorious than candy that's been crushed up and added to ice cream. Luckily, that's just what you'll get with Braum's peanut butter with Snickers

The main downside is that the brand uses peanut butter ice cream as the base. The flavor is slightly overwhelming — we think it would've been better had it started out with vanilla instead. But then comes the Snickers bar, which adds the perfect touch of texture to the scoop. The chocolate-covered peanuts in the mix take it up another notch. This flavor may not be the best, but it's interesting enough that you should definitely try it.

14. Hot chocolate

We all love hot chocolate, but sometimes, it's just not substantial enough on its own as a dessert. If you love the flavor profile of a cup of this warm beverage but want to experience it in an all-new way, you can't go wrong with Braum's hot chocolate ice cream. The hot cocoa flavor doesn't have the intensity of some of the other chocolate bases — and for that, we're grateful.

The addition of mini marshmallows in this option is fun and creative and makes every bite more exciting. The hot chocolate flavor isn't too wild, so it still has a wide appeal, but it's an exciting departure from your average, everyday chocolate ice cream.

13. French eggnog

Some flavors are perfect for getting you into the spirit of the season, and Braum's French eggnog ice cream is one of them. But this stuff is so good, we would happily eat it all year round.

The first thing you should know about this flavor is that it's super, super creamy. The addition of fresh eggs makes it taste even richer, and the spices top it all off. One spoonful of this ice cream will remind you of the holidays. When Braum's comes out with this flavor every year, you should make sure you get your hands on it before it leaves the menu again.

12. Cherries, pecans, and cream

When you want something a little out of the ordinary, you may want to try Braum's cherries, pecans, and cream ice cream. It starts with a creamy vanilla base, to which they add maraschino cherries. The super-sweet fruit adds a fun pop of color and a slight chewiness that keeps things interesting. Also, on the texture front, the pecans add a touch of crunchiness to the flavor. When it all comes together, it's a surprisingly simple and delicious combo.

This isn't a flavor you'll find everywhere, so it's worth taking advantage of when you get a chance to try it.

11. Butter pecan

Some classic ice cream flavors, like vanilla and chocolate, can appear boring and unimaginative. But butter pecan never falls into that category. Somehow, it's always enjoyable, no matter how many times you've had it. And luckily, Braum's does their butter pecan flavor exceptionally well.

It's an especially simple recipe, with sugar and cream playing a starring role. Of course, there's the addition of the pecans, which add a nice crunch to keep things interesting. But there's also a sweet nuttiness to the pecans that can really shine when they're a key ingredient in an otherwise neutral flavor. This kind of simplicity comes together perfectly.

10. Snickerdoodle

Can't decide whether you want cookies or ice cream for dessert? No worries — just try the snickerdoodle flavor from Braum's. The snickerdoodle cookies are crumbled into tiny pieces that easily fold into the snickerdoodle-flavored ice cream. Then, the chain adds in a sprinkle of cinnamon to make sure every bite is packed with flavor.

Super-adventurous ice cream eaters may enjoy a few more unexpected elements in their cold dessert. But for those who want to keep things simple without getting bored after a few bites, this snickerdoodle flavor is a fantastic option from Braum's. Try it with a scoop of the hot chocolate ice cream if you want to keep things interesting.

9. Chocolate almond

Almonds often don't get their due on the ice cream front. You see cold desserts packed with peanuts and pecans all the time, but doesn't this other option deserve love too? Luckily, Braum's doesn't ignore almonds with its chocolate almond flavor.

This is another one of those super-simple options that come together so beautifully. The chocolate ice cream is rich and creamy but not so intensely flavored that it leaves you feeling thirsty. The almonds aren't crunchy, per se, but they do add some texture and a lovely nuttiness that's perfectly complemented by the cocoa. This is a flavor we could easily eat on the regular.

8. Neapolitan

Does it ever feel like a burden to have to choose which flavor of ice cream you're going to indulge in? Between chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, how do you really make a decision, anyway? It's a tough call, which means that you might just want to choose Braum's Neapolitan ice cream instead. That way, you can get a taste of all three different flavors.

This one is perfect for the undecided who don't want an ice cream that's too fussy. The vanilla is super creamy, the chocolate is lovely and rich, and the strawberry provides just enough freshness and fruitiness to liven up the other two flavors. What's not to love about this classic combo?

7. Amaretto Peach Charlotte

There are some people out there who strictly want to indulge in chocolate-based ice creams. There are others who would prefer something on the fruitier side. If you fall into the latter category, you're going to want to get your hands on the Amaretto Peach Charlotte flavor from Braum's.

The peach ice cream is nice and subtle but has a distinct stone fruit quality to it that we love. The fresh peach ribbon delivers even more fruitiness and a bit of acidity to boot. But what really takes this flavor over the edge are the pieces of ladyfinger cookies. Put it all together, and you have an unforgettable cold dessert that you won't find at most other ice cream shops.

6. Chocolate chunk chocolate cheesecake

Now, we know we haven't been super fond of the ultra-chocolatey flavors on this list, but there is a notable exception: the chocolate chunk chocolate cheesecake

While this flavor brings in a lot of different cocoa elements, it's special because of the base of chocolate cheesecake ice cream. The cheesecake flavor is perceptible, and that's just the way we like it. The chocolate seems more like an afterthought, albeit a delicious one. The fudge ribbon makes things a lot richer, and it's the only reason this option isn't higher on our list. The chocolate chunk pieces round it out, adding the texture we all want from a perfect ice cream flavor.

5. Pistachio almond

What happens when you combine two different nuts in an ice cream flavor? You get Braum's pistachio almond ice cream. We love that the brand took such an interesting route with this flavor. The pistachio ice cream is one of the best we've ever had. It's light and subtle in taste, but it seriously delivers when it comes to texture and creaminess.

Don't worry, though — Braum's doesn't take the creaminess too far. Adding almonds to the mix was a fantastic call, as the slightly softened nuts in every bite make you want to go back for seconds every time you order this flavor.

4. Caramel cookie dough

We all love a good cookie dough ice cream, but you can only have it so many times before it loses its appeal. For those who want a cookie dough cold dessert that takes things up a notch, try Braum's caramel cookie dough flavor.

Plain cookie dough ice cream is used as a base, and to that, the chain adds pieces of cookie dough, chocolate chips, and a caramel ribbon. The caramel adds an extra layer of sweetness but also an added layer of complexity. There's a slight saltiness there that adds to the intrigue even more.

3. Chocolate toffee

You don't see toffee in ice cream every day, which is just part of the reason we love the chocolate toffee ice cream from Braum's. The toffee has a warm, rich taste that's very different but complementary to the chocolate base. The ice cream is also quite rich but has a cooler quality that plays well with the warm flavors of the toffee.

This combo is simple but also kind of unexpected, and we love that it comes together in such an elegant way. It's not often that we like a super-sweet dessert as much as we love this one.

2. Cherry chocolate chip

Do you want fruity or chocolate ice cream? Well, when you go with Braum's cherry chocolate chip flavor, you don't have to choose. The cherry ice cream is where it all starts. Yes, it's cherry-flavored, but it also contains pieces of maraschino cherries, which add a pop of sweetness and the slightest bit of tartness. Then, of course, there's the chocolate. It comes in the form of chocolate chips to keep things simple.

The combo of chocolate and cherry is a classic one, but it's even better when it's in ice cream form. This versatile flavor is one of our absolute favorites.

1. Coconut chocolate cheesecake

Let's get one thing straight: Cheesecake is the perfect dessert. Nothing can top the creaminess and slight sourness of this top-notch dessert. But when you add chocolate into the mix? All bets are off. It's an absolutely perfect combination. Turn that into ice cream, and you get the best of all Braum's flavors: the coconut chocolate cheesecake

Coconut chocolate cheesecake ice cream is the base of the dessert, and it has that tropical fruit note that sets it apart from any other cheesecake cold dessert you've ever had. A fudge ribbon and brownie pieces top it all off, making for a perfectly sweet and satisfying flavor. The next time you're at Braum's, this should be your top choice.
