Eggo Wants To Help You Relax This Holiday Season With Its Boozy New Product

"Leggo my Eggo." Is there anyone who isn't familiar with this genius catchphrase? It has introduced generations of parents and kids to the joys of Eggo waffles. Delish notes that frozen waffles have been around since the company's founding in 1953, but the memorable ad campaign wasn't created until 1972. That means the famous catchphrase is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Eggo actually tried to move on from the tagline in 2008 but revived it again in 2014.

It seemed like a wise move at the time. After all, how many words pair perfectly with Eggo? Not many, but that was also the case with the waffles' original name: Froffles. Yes, per Delish, for two years in the 1950s, Eggo waffles were known as Froffles. The name doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, which may have attributed to why the company eventually changed it.

Of course, there is at least one more word besides Leggo that has always felt like a natural pairing with Eggo, a word so fitting that it was seemingly only a matter of time until Eggo created a product to match. Well, that time has finally come and Eggo is releasing its exciting new product during the upcoming holiday season.

A holiday pairing that's perfect for parents

Eggo Nog will be finally here in time for the holidays. According to a recent press release from the Kellogg Company — Eggo's parent company — the frozen waffle producer has collaborated with Gatlinburg, Tennessee-based Sugarland Distilling Co. to create Eggo Nog Appalachian Sippin' Cream. The rum-spiked, eggnog-style holiday sipper was specifically designed to complement Eggo's traditional Thick and Fluffy waffles. So while the kids are slathering their morning waffles with syrup, parents may want to wait until later in the day to enjoy theirs with the tasty new pairing option.

"The holidays are exhausting for parents — from extra family responsibilities to the pressure of making the holidays perfect, parents rarely have any downtime for themselves," notes Joe Beauprez, Marketing Director for Eggo, in the press release. "We created Eggo Nog to give parents a delicious way to indulge in some well-deserved 'evening me time.' Paired perfectly with our Eggo Thick & Fluffy Waffles — maybe even topped with a dollop of ice cream — Eggo Nog is sure to help parents L'Eggo during one of the busiest times of the year."

Eggo Nog is 40-proof (20% alcohol by volume), and in addition to its rum base, features traditional eggnog flavors like cinnamon and nutmeg. The liqueur will be sold at stores around the U.S during the holiday season, per the press release, with retail outlets listed on Sugarlands' website.
