Put Some Hocus Pocus In Your Cup With Starbucks' Secret Menu Frappuccinos
The first thing to know about the Starbucks "secret menu" is that Starbucks has never sanctioned any secret menu. At least that's what Starbucks baristas told Thrillist in 2016, and in the intervening years, we've never found evidence to the contrary. Likewise, there's no evidence to suggest that real live witches live among us and are capable of transforming teenagers into black cats, as fans of "Hocus Pocus" might remember from the 1993 comedy slash not-quite-horror flick.
Nevertheless, we know what we know, and that is that Starbucks fans have been savoring the movie-inspired beverages that do not appear on any official Starbucks menu for years now. We also know that "real" or not, the three colorful witches played by Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker, from the original "Hocus Pocus" movie, have been making an indelible impact on popular culture for nearly three decades running. The witches are back again in a sequel that ScreenCrush says is Disney+'s biggest-ever film premiere yet.
Well, if you know you know. And what we know is that since just before the sequel's debut, Starbucks baristas have been, at customer request, whipping up a collection of "Hocus Pocus"-themed Frappuccinos, which have since become integral to Starbucks' secret menu. Here's what you'll need to know in order to put some of that "Hocus Pocus" in your cup.
Three Frappuccinos make up the Hocus Pocus secret menu collection at Starbucks
Each of the Winifred, Mary, and Sarah secret menu Frappuccinos, which appear to have been conceived by Totally The Bomb, brings some serious Sanderson sister-specific aesthetics and energy, per The Disney Food Blog. And not surprisingly, these three new "Hocus Pocus"-themed Starbucks secret menu Frappuccinos are as different from one another as the three witches who inspired them.
The Winifred Sanderson Frappuccino is, like Winifred Sanderson (played by Bette Midler), clad chiefly in green with a shock of red up top. The audacious flavor profile includes peppermint, white mocha, green tea, and strawberries. The Mary Sanderson is, like Mary herself (played by Kathy Najimy), dressed in red with a shock of mocha-darkness on top. Flavor-wise, you'll find it as eclectic as Mary, herself, with its strawberries and cream juxtaposed with white mocha syrup, strawberry puree, strawberry bits, and topped with a mocha drizzle. Finally, Sarah Sanderson conjures up the witch played by Sarah Jessica Parker, with its magenta-berry base, extra berries, coconut milk, and ginger.
Please note that ordering by character name alone will not assure you get what you came for (as Reddit users warn). However, going prepared with one of the following recipes — either committed to memory or to your smartphone or scrap paper — ought to suffice.
Here's how to order the Winifred, the Mary, and the Sarah Starbucks Hocus Pocus Frapps
When ordering any item off the Starbucks secret menu, you'll want to offer to the barista, not just the name of the item, but also a clear, concise set of directions (per Reddit). Totally The Bomb, which came up with these concoctions, offers the following crib sheet:
For the Winifred Sanderson, start by asking for a Grande Green Tea Frappuccino, but with a pump of white mocha, a pump of peppermint syrup, and some crushed strawberries scattered over the whipped cream topping. For the Mary Sanderson, tell your barista you want the Grande Strawberries and Cream Frappuccino but with a squirt of mocha drizzle and strawberry puree on the bottom, white mocha syrup in place of the sweetener, extra strawberry bits, and a mocha drizzle/strawberry puree topper. For the Sarah Sanderson, ask for a Violet Drink with extra berries, substitute the soy milk for coconut, and ask for a double blend and a sprinkling of ginger powder on top.
Again, in each case, because the recipes for Starbucks' secret menu items are not codified within the Starbucks cannon, we cannot emphasize enough that to ensure you get what you want, you should be abundantly clear in your directions per Food Network.
