Shark Tank's Safe Catch Canned Tuna Is Now On Store Shelves
From edible cookie dough, to honey wine, to vegan sushi, "Shark Tank" is no stranger to backing brand new food products (via Shark Tank Products). And during season eight of the show, Sean Wittenberg and Bryan Boches asked investors for $600,000 to back their company, Safe Catch — one of the largest asks in the history of the show, per Shark Tank Recap. The sharks ultimately decided not to invest, and the co-founders left without a deal. But the company later found funding from angel investors, as well as an endorsement from singer Nick Jonas, who shared a post-workout recipe using Safe Catch canned tuna.
Safe Catch uses unique mercury testing technology and boasts the lowest mercury content limits of any commercially available tuna brand, according to BusinessWire. It is non-GMO, additive-free, gluten-free, and certified kosher, according to its website. The extensive mercury testing also makes the brand a safer choice for pregnant people and children, and now, it will be easier than ever to find the brand during your next grocery shopping trip.
Safe Catch has found continued success
In 2017, Safe Catch partnered with Kroger to bring its products to the retailer's shelves, per Shark Tank Recap. Now, the company can be found at another popular grocery store chain. Safe Catch products are now available in over 1,500 Walmart stores nationwide, in both cans and pouches, according to a Safe Catch post on Instagram. Customers can purchase the Elite Wild Tuna, Wild Albacore Tuna, and Wild Pacific Pink Salmon varieties. The products can be found using the Safe Catch store locator, or purchased online through the Walmart website.
Safe Catch is Marine Stewardship Council certified, showing the brand's commitment to sustainability, according to BusinessWire. Its website states that its sustainably sourced seafood preserves the integrity of lakes, oceans, and rivers. The fish are harvested using catch methods designed to protect the ecosystems, allowing populations to continue thriving for future harvests. Every single fish caught by Safe Catch is tested for its mercury levels, with limitations stricter than FDA standards for every fish used in its products.
