16 Must-Try Cocktails At Walt Disney World
Walt Disney World is the land of castles, princesses, and pixie dust. Like the pop culture surrounding it, Disney World is constantly in flux with new attractions, restaurants, and lands. For example, when the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971, there was no alcohol served in the park. But, as the Orlando Sentinel points out, when Epcot opened in 1989, it opened with beers in the Canadian and German pavilions and even wine in France. Today, you'll regularly see large groups of guests wearing matching shirts and traveling through the pavilions, grabbing drinks at each stop. This grand tour is known by many as "drinking around the world."
Epcot is a fabulous park in which to enjoy a beverage, but the restaurants and other parks throughout Disney World have many options for guests seeking a great cocktail. So whether you're looking for a drink inspired by Star Wars lore or a breezy beach-bound vacation, Disney World definitely has you covered.
French Rose at Topolino's Terrace
Walt Disney World's newest resort is the Riviera, and, according to the Disney Vacation Club, it's inspired by the magic Walt Disney loved while traveling Europe. Inside, it's light and airy, with scents of coffee and wine touring the halls. On the resort's top floor, you'll find one of Disney World's newest signature dining restaurants: Topolono's Terrace.
From their homemade pasta to delicious cuts of meat, Topolino's Terrace has become one of the must-visit dining locations on the property. It's just a short Skyliner ride from Epcot or Hollywood Studios and would make for the perfect dinner break before an evening spectacular.
While there, you'll find an impressive collection of cocktails. One of our favorites is the French Rose. Pretty and pink, the French Rose has Ketel One Citroen Vodka that gets shaken with Combier Crème de Pamplemousse Rose Liqueur and flavors of raspberry, lemon, and agave to sweeten it up. There's even a little soda water to add a bit of bubble. Refreshing and fruity, this drink is pretty sweet. So if you're looking for a perfect first drink of the night with very little alcohol bite, look no further than the French Rose.
Pomegranate Paradiso at Topolino's Terrace
Though the French Rose is outstanding, it's far from the only cocktail offering at Topolino's Terrace worth checking out. We find that the Pomegranate Paradiso makes an ideal second drink. Pomegranate Paradiso is also vodka based with pomegranate, pineapple, and lemon.
The Encyclopedia Britannica states that the pomegranate thrives in the Riviera due to its favorable and especially beautiful climate. And while pomegranates can be a real pain to prepare, they are a delicious part of many drinks. In fact, over the course of the history of the pomegranate, it has also become the flavor of grenadine, a syrup that gets its name from the French word for the pomegranate fruit.
Not quite as sweet as the French Rose, the Pomegranate Paradiso drink is also delicious. Pineapple forward, you'll get that pomegranate taste on the finish even though it's prominently featured in the name, and the drink is a lovely pink color.
Yub Nub at Oga's Cantina
Oga's Cantina is a Star Wars fan favorite and one of the best restaurants at Disney World. Enjoy the intergalactic beats from former Star Tours droid, DJ R-3X, but be sure to mind your manners because Disney World warns that it follows Oga Garra's very own code of conduct.
You'll have an impressive collection of cocktails to choose from, and you won't be able to find such a unique collection anywhere else at Disney World. One of the more popular drinks at Oga's is the Yub Nub, a drink that your bartender will serve in an exclusive ceramic mug with a fascinating Star Wars design. While you can purchase the mug to take home, the drink is served in the mug whether you wish to take it home or not.
A juicy sweet drink, it is a concoction of two rums: Malibu Pineapple Rum and Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum. Then, you get citrus and passion fruit juices. Exceptionally sweet and fruity, you'd be hard-pressed to find a drink that tastes more like juice in Disney World, making the Yub Nub easy to drink and a quick favorite.
Jedi Mind Trick at Oga's Cantina
Oga's Cantina draws all types into its humble corridors, including the Jedi. So whether you follow the dark side or wield your very own lightsaber, you'll find that this is surely the drink you're looking for.
The Jedi Mind Trick is a reference to the Jedi's ability to sway others' minds to a specific way of thinking or position. A cool light teal color, the Jedi Mind Trick combines Ketel One Botanical Grapefruit and Rose Vodka with John D. Taylor's Velvet Falernum, a rum-based liqueur with spice and almond flavor, according to Haus Alpenz. The drink gets its cool blue coloring from Bols Blue Curaçao, its delightful sweetness from white grape juice, and its tart taste from lime juice and grapefruit bitters.
You end up with a drink that is not only gorgeous but nearly glowing. It tastes bright and fruity while also a little bit tart with some bite. Unlike some other drinks on the menu, this one won't pull any funny tricks, like making your lips numb, but Sith beware — it may turn you to the light side.
Fuzzy Tauntaun at Oga's Cantina
According to Liquor.com, in the 1980s, bartender Ray Foley invented a drink with a funny name and delicious taste: the Fuzzy Navel. A mixture of peach schnapps and vodka with orange juice, a Fuzzy Navel ends up being similar to a screwdriver but with an added peach flavor. Oga's Fuzzy Tauntaun is a fun variation of this peachy beverage.
The other part of the name comes from the Star Wars creature called a Tauntaun, a snow lizard native to Hoth, explains Star Wars. Tauntauns appear in both "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" and "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi."
Best known for the tingling you get from the foam on top, the Fuzzy Tauntaun is a mix of Cîroc Peach Vodka and Bols Peach Schnapps with orange tangerine juice, sugar, and, of course, that foam that makes your lips just a little tingly and even numb. It's a fun and unique feeling to have while drinking a beverage.
Bespin Fizz at Oga's Cantina
Amongst the menu of pretty drinks, collection-worthy glassware, and delicious sweets, there are drinks with a whole lot of flair. For example, the Bespin Fizz cocktail gets its name from the planet Bespin, which Star Wars describes as a gas giant in a rarely visited region of space.
Full of mystique and with an effect that you'll love, the Bespin Fizz includes Bacardí Superior Rum with flavors of yuzu, pomegranate, white cranberry juice, and a really cool cloud swirl effect. Though bubbly and pink, the Bespin Fizz has an especially prominent citrus flavor from the yuzu fruit puree.
But what really makes this drink a must-try is the effect of the dry ice. At the bottom of your glass, small holes lead to a chamber holding dry ice. When the drink is poured into the glass, it bubbles, fizzes, and creates a waft of haze.
Moonshine Sour at the American Adventure Pavilion
Surrounding Epcot's World Showcase Lagoon are several countries where you can shop, eat, and enjoy a small taste of those countries' cultures. One of the nations in the World Showcase is America, and just outside of the Regal Eagle BBQ restaurant, you'll find a bar serving up all sorts of delicious and patriotic offerings.
One of the most popular drinks at Epcot, according to the bartenders at the Regal Eagle walk-up bar window, is the Moonshine Sour. With Ole Smoky Blackberry Moonshine, blood orange, blackberry, and lemon flavors, this refreshing and fruity drink is the perfect sip for walking around the World Showcase or catching a show in the American Gardens Theater, right across the walkway from the Regal Eagle Smokehouse. The moonshine in this one is very slight, but the sweetness is quite strong, so be careful not to drink it too fast. We promise you: There is alcohol in there.
If you're unfamiliar with the spirit, you may wonder what exactly moonshine is. Moonshine has a corn base and is essentially unaged whiskey. And Ole Smoky, the moonshine in this Epcot favorite, is the first legal moonshine distiller in Tennessee history.
Lapu Lapu at the Polynesian Resort
When it comes to fruity and fun drinks, the Lapu Lapu may take the cake. Served throughout the Polynesian resort at Ohana, Kona Cafe, and Tambu Lounge, it's not uncommon to see happy vacationers traveling throughout the resort with this tropical and fun drink in hand. How would you know? It's easily recognizable because the Lapu Lapu is served in a hollowed-out pineapple.
Unsurprisingly, the must-try cocktail is rum-based with both Plantation Original Dark Rum and Gosling's 151 Rum. It's accompanied by sweet, tropical juices to make the Lapu Lapu fun to drink and quite refreshing. Don't be fooled by the fun appearance, though; the Lapu Lapu drink knows how to pack a punch, and with a price tag of just over $19, you probably won't have more than one.
If you're visiting the Magic Kingdom, Grand Floridian, Contemporary Resort, or even the Ticket and Transportation center, the Lapu Lapu is just a short monorail ride away. On your next trip, be sure to visit the Polynesian resort for a quick island getaway and such an unmissable tropical drink.
Annapurna Zing at the Nomad Lounge
Connected to Tiffins, you'll find Nomad Lounge, an excellent place to prop up your feet after exploring the Animal Kingdom. There, you'll notice banners above asking questions about the meaning of travel and exploration. You can answer these questions on your own little tags that get added to the impressive tag chandelier. It's a way for people around the world to connect with one another.
For a drink with a beautiful lit lotus flower, the Annapurna Zing is a terrific choice with Bombay Sapphire Gin paired with delicious passion fruit, mint, simple syrup, and lime. Of course, to top it all off, you'll get a little light souvenir.
We love the botanical taste of the gin and how the passion fruit sweetens it right up with that great mint taste to complement the gin. In all, the Annapurna Zing is lightly fruity and will leave you feeling deeply refreshed.
Lamu Libation at the Nomad Lounge
While you're enjoying the ambiance at the Nomad Lounge, you should also order a Lamu Libation. Filled with rum, this mix includes Starr African Rum, Cruzan Banana Rum, and Gosling's 151 Rum, all mixed up with guava, lime, and pineapple flavors.
Of course, that cherry taste from the Starr rum compliments the fruits so well that Lamu Libations end up tasting like a drink you might find on the beach with a drilling umbrella. All of those fruits harmonize well with the rum to make this deliciously refreshing and the perfect drink to enjoy on a hot Florida day. Imagine enjoying the ambiance of the Animal Kingdom, fresh off safari with a sweet orange drink in hand. It may just become your favorite little getaway in Disney World. While you're there, remember to check out some of the small plates. We highly recommend the Tiffins Bread Service and Honey-Chili Glazed Pork Belly.
While you can't beat the atmosphere of the Nomad Lounge, you can also use the walk-up bar to take a drink to-go. Be aware, however, that most attractions in the park do not allow you on the ride with an open container. Though that's a bummer, there are plenty of places to sit down, enjoy your drink, and just take in the excitement and people-watching opportunities.
Shipwreck at The Boathouse
Disney Springs is a fabulous haven for great shopping and even better food. One of our favorite stops in this Disney-owned restaurant paradise is The Boathouse. Best known for its Amphicar Tours that regularly take families for trips in the lagoon, The Boathouse has excellent food and cocktails that make it a can't-miss stop on your vacation.
For an incredibly potent cocktail that packs a punch, but is still outrageously delicious, order the Shipwreck. Be sure to note that the Shipwreck is aptly named and should be enjoyed slowly throughout the course of your meal because it is very strong. While you'd never know it from the delicious fruity taste, it's so strong that you may even want to share it. The first time we ordered this drink, it even came with a word of caution from our waiter.
Loaded up with Marti Gold and Silver Rum, Passoa, tropical fruit juices, oranges, and cherries, the Shipwreck is everything you hope for in a rum drink. It's sweet from those fruit juices, but not overly so, and is inattentive drinkable.
Duck Duck Razz at the Boathouse
The Boathouse is located right off the water, making it a great place to grab a drink and enjoy the water, boats, and vibes. One of the most popular drinks to order at the Boathouse is the Duck Duck Razz because it is delightfully delicious and perfectly Instagrammable.
Adorable and accented with the perfect yellow drinking buddy, the Duck Duck Razz combines Stoli Razz, Peach Schnapps, and Blue Curacao with lemon juice and simple syrup. The drink is a beautiful teal blue color representing water, and it's served with a little yellow rubber duckie floating about.
Thanks to the Stoli Razz, the Duck Duck Razz has a delightful raspberry flavor with juicy peach and tart lemon. If you're looking for a light-hearted cocktail that is as fun as its surroundings, this drink would be an ideal pick to enjoy while watching the Disney boats and Amphicar float on by.
La Cava Avocado at La Cava del Tequila
If you're an adult older than 21 and have visited Epcot before, you know that one of the best parts of being a Disney adult is the incredible Drinking Around the World Showcase. While the Moonshine Sour may be one of the most popular drinks at Epcot, perhaps the most popular stop in the World Showcase is La Cava del Tequila in the Mexico Pavilion. You'll find a line at La Cava del Tequila from the moment it opens, and for a good reason too.
La Cava Avocado has Tromba blanco tequila with a melon liqueur and flavors of avocado and lime. It comes with a hibiscus salt rim and is a lovely green color. This margarita is smooth with a bit of sweetness and has a fantastic salt rim that provides the perfect accent. Avocado may not be the first ingredient that comes to mind for a great margarita, but we're certain a drink such as this is sure to change your mind.
Chips and guacamole make a great snack, and nowhere does them as well as La Cava del Tequila. The portion is substantial, making chips and guacamole an excellent nosh before evening fireworks.
Refillable Mimosa at Steakhouse 71
Steakhouse 71 is in the famous Contemporary Resort. On the first floor of the resort, at the bottom of the escalators, you'll find the restaurant that pays homage to Walt Disney and the Disney World of 1971. Complete with pictures and 1970s-type furniture, this restaurant has many dishes that reference Walt and his memory.
For breakfast, you can order Refillable Mimosas with Mas Fi Cava Brut Sparkling Wine and orange juice. Like a mimosa should be, this drink is sweet with a little bite of bubbly. Though Steakhouse 71 is a relatively new restaurant, opening just in time for the park's 50th-anniversary celebration, it replaced a restaurant called the Wave. And like Steakhouse 71, the Wave had refillable mimosas, a simple cocktail with sparkling wine and orange juice. The perfect mimosa compliments any brunch, but at Disney World, they are even better. And at a price tag of just over $19, the refillable aspect makes it a pretty great deal before heading over to the Magic Kingdom for a day of magic.
Frozcato at Wine Bar George
Just a few steps from the Boathouse you'll find Wine Bar George, the only wine bar that is led by a Master Sommelier, George Miliotes. Within these walls, you'll find delicious small plates and outstanding wine pairings. You can often find George himself walking around the restaurant visiting diners.
One of the most delicious drinks you'll find at Wine Bar George is Frozcato, a frozen drink made with Dole Whip Pineapple and Moscato. If you purchase a Corkcicle cup, you'll get a frozen drink for free and discounted drinks any time you order with your Corkcicle. The Frozcato tastes like a massive upgrade to the Dole Whip you can find throughout Walt Disney World.
We recommend pairing your Frozcato with any of the delicious small plates. We especially enjoy the Saganaki On Fire, a delightful dish with cheese covered in lemon juice and lit on fire. It makes the cheese crackly and gooey. We also love the artisanal cheese board and how sharable both of these items are.
Morimoto Mai Tai at Morimoto Asia
Chef Masaharu Morimoto has a restaurant called Morimoto Asia in Disney Springs. Peking duck hangs in the windows, and the first floor dining area opens to a large kitchen theater with a bustling kitchen hard at work. Morimoto Asia serves up pan-Asian food with everything from stellar sushi to spectacular ramen.
The menu also boasts several delicious cocktails. Though all beautiful and delicious, the Morimoto Mai Tai tastes even better than it looks, which is a true feat. It is Cruzan Coconut Rum and Appleton Estate 12 Year Rum based with flavors of orgeat almond syrup, lime juice, pineapple juice, and Peychaud's bitters.
It seems all restaurants that offer Mai Tais put their own unique spin on the recipe, and Morimoto Asia is no different. The Morimoto Mai Tai is sweet, fruity, and quite beautiful, with a floater of that Appleton Estate 12 Year Rum and a lovely flower on top.
