Check Your Kitchen: 2 Million Cosori Air Fryers Are Being Recalled

When they function properly and are used safely, air fryers may be the very best way to get beautifully crisped-up fried food at home. Air fryers help home cooks achieve golden brown results with far less oil and easier cleanup compared to traditional methods of frying, which is why so many kitchens contain these devices.

When air fryers malfunction, they can be exceedingly dangerous, though, which is why it's so important to heed manufacturers' recalls. Last year, Best Buy recalled more than 700,000 Insignia air fryers because of multiple reports in both the U.S. and Canada that the devices had overheated, melted, and in some cases caught fire, resulting in instances of property damage and physical injury. Also in 2022, two models of Magic Chef air fryers were recalled because some components in the fryers could overheat.

On February 23, 2023, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of more than two million Cosori air fryers sold in the U.S. as well as additional air fryers sold in Mexico and Canada.

Some models pose fire and burn hazards

The CPSC recall announcement said Cosori has received 205 consumer reports of the air fryers catching on fire, melting, burning, overheating, and smoking, resulting in some minor injuries, along with minor property damage. Cosori reports that it investigated after receiving customer complaints and discovered that connectors between wires in the air fryers can overheat, causing the device to malfunction.

Cosori's website lists the models and batch numbers of the voluntarily recalled air fryers, along with instructions for locating those numbers on a Cosori device, as well as information about obtaining a replacement. Anyone who owns a Cosori air fryer with a model and batch number being recalled is instructed to immediately stop using the device and fill out the recall registration form to request a replacement.

The CPSC notes that Corsori air fryers affected by the recall were sold at Best Buy, Target, and The Home Depot stores nationwide, as well as from a number of online retailers including Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, and more. Cosori's consumer notice for the recall apologizes for the inconvenience to customers and encourages those with questions or in need of assistance to call their recall support hotline at 888-216-5974 from Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8am-5pm EST.
