Disney's Iconic Dole Whip Is Heading To The Freezer Aisle

Fans of Disney Parks and Resorts have cause to rejoice as a familiar treat is coming to grocery stores near you. Soon you will not have to travel to Florida, California, or Hawaii to satisfy cravings for your favorite frozen pineapple dessert. Dole Packaged Foods announced in a press release on March 3, that Dole Whip is coming to your local freezer aisle in three classic flavors in 2023.

Dole Whip is one of 11 new packaged products the fruit giant announced it will be bringing to stores this year. The official announcement took place at the Natural Products Expo West, which is being held this week just down the street from Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

Dole Whip has been an essential part of Disney World and Disneyland since it made its debut in Florida in 1984. Originally, these treats were only sold in Adventureland at both U.S. parks, near the Dole-sponsored Enchanted Tiki Room attractions, and at the Dole Plantation in Hawaii, where it came in three flavors: orange, strawberry, and, of course, the iconic pineapple.

Whipping up fans

As demand grew for the tropical-tasting dessert over the years, Disney and Dole expanded its availability across parks and resorts and rolled out additional flavors, including mango, watermelon, lemon, lime, cherry, and raspberry, though flavor availability tends to rotate throughout the year at different locations, with pineapple being the mainstay. According to Dole, the versions of the fan-favorite treat coming to grocery stores are similar to the original trio of flavors with pineapple and strawberry heading to the freezer section along with mango, which is taking the place of orange.

Despite being classified as soft serve, Dole Whip is not really ice cream, since it is dairy-free and completely vegan, which means it could also be a healthier choice for people looking to satisfy a sweet tooth at home over the summer. Over the years, a number of unlicensed Dole Whip copy-cat recipes, and even one official one released by Disney during the pandemic, have circulated online, though most have been deemed not as good as the original.

Fans will have to see how the freezer section version compares to their vacation memories when the product hits shelves in the coming months.
