Easy Russian Dressing Recipe

Salad dressings bring all kinds of lettuce to life, and although you can purchase pre-made options, there is nothing better than the fresh taste of a homemade dressing. Russian dressing, known for its sweet and tangy flavor, is not actually Russian, but born in New Hampshire; earlier versions of the sauce even included caviar.

Recipe developer Miriam Hahn brings us this recipe for homemade Russian dressing and says, "I usually prefer to make my [own] dressings. Bottled dressings always contain additives and preservatives that I want to avoid consuming, and homemade dressings taste so much fresher when you create them in your own kitchen. I love to use this dressing on my lentil taco salad, or as a spread on a grilled veggie sandwich. You can even make it vegan if needed by using vegan mayo and vegan Worcestershire sauce." Read on to learn how to make this delicious dressing in just 5 minutes.

Gather the ingredients for this Russian dressing

To make this recipe, you'll need minced onion, mayonnaise, ketchup, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, and salt. "I typically use a white onion for this recipe, but any type will be fine," Hahn shares. "If you want to make this recipe vegan, there are many vegan mayo [options] on the market and because fish sauce or anchovies are usually in Worcestershire sauce, you'll want to look for one without those ingredients. [On the other hand,] you can make your own Worcestershire sauce if you have extra time," Hahn says.

Combine the ingredients, and serve

Combine the finely-minced onion, mayonnaise, ketchup, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, and salt in a small bowl.

Cover the dressing, and put it into the fridge until you are ready to use it. "I usually store mine in a small mason jar with a lid," Hahn shares. The dressing will last for up to 1 week in the fridge. And just like that, you have a homemade dressing in 5 minutes that's perfect for salads and Reuben sandwiches
