Valerie Bertinelli Revealed That Food Network Canceled Her Cooking Show
Golden Globe-winning actress turned Emmy-winning Food Network star Valerie Bertinelli took to social media this weekend to share some bad news with her fans. After nearly eight years on the air, her cooking show, "Valerie's Home Cooking," has been canceled.
In a video posted on Instagram, the host told viewers that the 14th Season of the series, which kicked off this Sunday, would indeed be the last. "Food Network canceled us last summer, I have no idea why. And I didn't say anything last summer because honestly, I was hoping they would change their mind. But they have not. So this is it, this is the final season," she said in the post.
"Valerie's Home Cooking" premiered back in 2015, featuring modernized versions of recipes that have been passed down in Bertinelli's family, from chocolate chip cookies to potato salad. It quickly became a fan favorite with the help of guest appearances by the star's celebrity friends, including the late Betty White, Hoda Kotb, and Wendie Malick. In 2019, the show even earned her two Daytime Emmy awards: Outstanding Culinary Program and Outstanding Culinary Host. Safe to say it will be missed.
What's next for the star?
What viewers could consider good news, of course, is that they do have a whole new season of the show ahead. "I hope that you enjoy this final season because [we] made every single episode with love for all of you," she added in her video.
But this may not be the last we'll see of Bertinelli. At the end of 2021, the star signed a new contract with the Food Network and its parent company's streaming service Discovery+. As Discovery reported, the deal extended her relationship with both platforms and pointed to the potential of new projects in the works. The then-president of Food Network, Courtney White, said at the time, "I am so excited that Valerie will continue to charm audiences across all our platforms, and our team is looking forward to working with her to bring her new projects to life."
Bertinelli also stars as a host and judge on the network's "Kids Baking Championship" alongside baker Duff Goldman. As for fans who hope to continue using her beloved recipes, look no further than the treasure trove of meals she has featured on her website.
