Baskin-Robbins' June Flavor Of The Month Is Cookie Monster-Inspired
Of the muppets that inhabit "Sesame Street," many have what we might traditionally think of as names: Bert, Elmo, Abby, and Elmo. But one single entity is so thoroughly driven by his passion that it informs every fiber of his being and he can only be known as one thing: Cookie Monster. So, it's fitting that the ice cream aficionados at Baskin-Robbins has dedicated its cookie-filled June flavor of the month to the voracious, blue-furred, googly-eyed monster.
In a press release sent to Tasting Table, Baskin-Robbins says the new ice cream has a blue-hued sweet cream base filled with chunks of chocolate chip cookies and chocolate sandwich cookies as well as a cookie dough batter swirl. While it is well-established that Cookie Monster holds cookies in the highest esteem — and they certainly provide the most dramatic eating experience on the show – there's no doubt he'd still be happy to gobble down an ice cream packed with cookie elements.
Two flavors in one
Indecisive fans of ice cream should rejoice at the announcement of the new flavor, especially if they're hardest decision is whether or not to get classic cookie 'n' cream or relative newcomer cookie dough ice cream. Cookie Monster ice cream provides the best of both worlds and ups the ante with the addition of chocolate chip cookie pieces and the fun, blue color.
"Creating our new Cookie Monster Ice Cream was an exciting challenge for us. We wanted to make sure it was not only delicious, but also visually striking, resulting in a bold blue base with not one, but two types of cookie pieces," said Jeanne Bolger, Director of Product Research & Development for Baskin-Robbins.
Fun fact about Cookie Monster: he doesn't actually eat cookies on "Sesame Street." Rather, says The Smithsonian Museum of American History, he actually munches on rice cakes made to look like cookies as the oil in cookies would ruin the blue fur on the puppet. But don't let that stop you from getting a little messy with this decadently-flavored sweet treat.
