Fireball's First Barrel-Aged Whiskey Is Unusually Affordable
Whiskey collectors, mark your calendars. At 11 a.m. EST on June 16, a whiskey the likes of which the world has never seen will be released, and quantities are extremely limited. Fireball Dragon Reserve will be available to order online, but there are only 618 bottles — a number selected to celebrate Father's Day, which falls on June 18 this year — to go around.
So what's so special about Fireball Dragon Reserve? It's the first-ever barrel-aged Fireball Cinnamon Whisky, but what's most remarkable is that the whiskey has been aged in ... wait for it ... dragon-charred bourbon barrels (that is, conventionally-charred American oak bourbon barrels). Still, despite these mythical origins, this legendary whiskey will carry the modest price of a mere $19.99.
Danny Suich, head dragon tamer and global brand director for Fireball said, "We know whiskey drinkers are always looking for the hottest, most exclusive new offering, but most of those products are way too expensive. That's why we created Dragon Reserve ... because the best gifts don't have to break the bank, but they should break convention and bring the heat!"
Fireball's honorary Master Distiller offers tasting notes
To launch the new Fireball Dragon Reserve, the whiskey company engaged one of the best palates in the spirits world, actor and comedian Rob Riggle, whose detailed tasting note is that the barrel-aged cinnamon whiskey is, "Absolute fire." He also made an important public service announcement: "Attention Children 21+: what dad wants for Father's Day is some peace and quiet so he can enjoy his new favorite whisky, Fireball Dragon Reserve."
Fireball says that Fireball Dragon Reserve is heavy on the cinnamon flavor with smoky, oaky undertones from being barrel aged for three months. According to the label, "Fireball Dragon Reserve balances subtle notes of oak, cinnamon, unbridled confidence, cinnamon, the sudden urge to throw a day-party, spicy stuff, euphoria, and more cinnamon."
Though only 618 bottles are available on a first-come-first-served basis for the initial release on June 16, a Fireball brand representative told Food&Wine, "If we sell out instantly, we may have a trick dragon or two up our sleeves!"
