Levain Bakery Is Opening Its First LA Location

The west coast is welcoming its first branch of the legendary Levain Bakery to its crowded bakery scene. On June 24, California customers can head to 227 N. Larchmont Boulevard, the center of Larchmont Village in Los Angeles, to get a taste of the Instagram-famous 6-ounce cookies that first put Levain on the map.

The bakery was first founded in New York City in 1995 and has previously expanded to areas on the East Coast, including Boston and Washington D.C., but has only gone as far west as Chicago. Now, with its L.A. location, the company is bringing its iconic cookie lineup as well as muffins, scones, loaf cakes, and sticky buns to the close-knit community of Larchmont Village. As for the coffee side of things, the bakery has teamed up with local roaster Canyon Coffee for its drink menu.

The setting of Larchmont Village was carefully selected by the Levain founders Pam Weekes and Connie McDonald. They stated in the press release, "With its charm, sense of community, and walkable streets, it's reminiscent of the Upper West Side neighborhood where Levain was created.

Levain's cookie empire arrives in Los Angeles

Levain's new digs come complete with a massive exterior mural painted by local street artist Janice Chang, known for her work in motion and advertising, depicting bright blue vignettes of the Larchmont community and Los Angeles at large. On the interior, expect warm wood tones of maple, walnut, and oak, and plenty of natural light, a design that was supposedly modeled after the "warmth of a Levain cookie." Plus, customers will have the ability to look at the comings and goings of the Levain kitchen, as bakers turn out their fresh-from-the-oven cookies.

Speaking of the cookies, the bakery will be selling all six signature flavors, including Chocolate Chip Walnut (also offered in vegan and gluten-free options), Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip, Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, Two-Chip Chocolate Chip, and Coconut Caramel Chocolate Chip. There will also be the seasonal Rocky Road flavor that comes out during the summer.

After the big opening day, customers can expect the Larchmont Village location of Levain to be open all seven days of the week, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The bakery will also start delivering on Postmates, Grubhub, and DoorDash next month.
