KFC's Fried Chicken Wraps Return To The Menu In 3 Flavors

Fried chicken lovers may have felt a pang of disappointment when KFC's fried chicken wraps were taken off the menu earlier this year, but the Colonel has heard your pleas and the wraps are coming back with even more flavors. The fried chicken wraps from KFC were originally announced as a limited-run item when they were released this past February 2023, following a test run in Atlanta at the end of 2022.

Well, they were apparently very successful. KFC stated in a press release that "fans have been begging for their return," and announced that the company would accelerate the normal cycle of special menu items and re-release them mere months after their initial run. KFC CMO Nick Chavez said in the release, "Since we introduced KFC Wraps earlier this year, others have followed with their versions" — apparently referencing the Burger King chicken wrap from summer 2022 — adding, "Why go to a burger chain for a fried chicken wrap, when you can get a craveable wrap with KFC's world-famous fried chicken?"

In addition to the original two wrap flavors — the Classic Chicken Wrap and Spicy Slaw Wrap — the lineup will now include a third flavor: the Mac & Cheese Wrap. The fried chicken wraps will be returning to KFC menus on November 12, 2023, at the same price they were earlier this year, two for $5. Unlike the first run, the company makes no mention of this being a limited run, so it's unclear how long the new wraps will stick around.

KFC now offers a new Mac & Cheese Wrap

The original two KFC fried chicken wraps were simple creations, which is understandable given their status as budget menu items. The Classic Chicken Wrap contains a single fried chicken tender wrapped in a tortilla with mayo and pickles. The Spicy Slaw Wrap swaps the mayo for a "spicy sauce," and adds coleslaw for a little extra crunch. KFC's new Mac & Cheese Wrap is a little more unique, topping the chicken tender with cheddar mac and also adding a grated three-cheese blend.

Beyond the two-for-$5 pricing, a fried chicken wrap combo meal will be available, where you can mix and match two flavors, along with fries and a drink, for $8.49. And if you want a little sweet treat to pair with that meal, KFC is also introducing the Colonel's Homestyle Brownie, which is a family-sized sharable chocolate chip brownie that will be priced at $6.99.

As alluded to in KFC's statement, strong competition may be part of the reason for the wrap's swift comeback. In addition to Burger King, both Dunkin' and Wendy's introduced chicken wraps in 2023, although those options feature grilled rather than fried meat. It all seems like part of an escalating tit-for-tat dating back to the fast food fried chicken sandwich wars, with chains increasingly ready and willing to copy other restaurants' successful items. And if the chicken wrap competition doesn't let up, the KFC version seems like it could stick around for a while.
