Who doesn't love a Champagne cocktail? Already huge fans of the French 75, we tap Robert Simonson for his recipe for an American 25, which combines Scotch and apple brandy with bubbly Champagne. It's a refreshing sparkling cocktail that picks up complex flavors from smoky Scotch.

You can easily make this cocktail for a group by batching all the ingredients minus the Champagne and lemon twists. Then, when you're ready to serve, shake with ice and top with Champagne and a lemon twist.

Champagne gets amped up with apple brandy, Scotch and lemon juice in this American version of the classic French 75 by Robert Simonson.

Ingredients
- 1 ounce apple brandy (preferably Laird's)
- ½ ounce lemon juice
- ½ ounce simple syrup
- ¼ ounce smoky Scotch whisky (preferably Laphroaig 10 Year)
- 4 ounces Champagne, chilled
- Lemon twist, for garnish
Directions
- In an ice-filled cocktail shaker, combine the apple brandy, lemon juice, simple syrup and Scotch. Shake until chilled, then strain into a flute. Top with Champagne and garnish with a lemon twist, then serve.
