Spicy Roasted Green Beans With Bacon Candy Recipe

TT Test Kitchen Tip: Bacon candy gets a sweet kick from brown sugar and cinnamon. Increase the amount of cayenne to make an even spicier treat. To make meal prep easier on Thanksgiving, this dish can be made ahead up to the point when the green beans are roasted. To finish the dish, roast the beans after the turkey is done.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¾ cup chopped slab bacon
  • 1 pound green beans, cleaned and trimmed
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Juice of half a medium lemon
  • Flaky sea salt

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°. In a medium bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, cayenne and cinnamon. Toss the bacon in the sugar mixture.
  2. In a medium skillet set over medium heat, cook the bacon, stirring frequently, until crisp, about 7 to 10 minutes.
  3. Place the green beans in a medium bowl. Drain the bacon fat from the skillet; reserve the seasoned bacon. Toss the bacon fat with the green beans. Season the green beans with salt and pepper. Spread the green beans on a sheet tray and bake until tender and beginning to blister, about 15 minutes.
  4. Transfer the beans to a serving plate, drizzle with the lemon juice and top with the reserved bacon candy and sea salt. Serve warm.
