David Chang's Delivery Restaurant, Ando, Is Live

David Chang's Ando launches in Midtown Manhattan

Yesterday, a scant 200 New Yorkers got first dibs on David Chang's much, much (did we say much?) buzzed-about delivery project, Ando. The delivery-only restaurant, as Chang has been calling it, is dropping off NYC Cheesesteaks (think cheesesteaks with Momofuku Lab's famed fermented chickpea paste, hozon); fried chicken boxes; a sandwich called the Ernesto made with roasted pork, curried seeded mustard, Muenster and Chinese broccoli; and hibiscus-pomegranate doughnuts, to name a few. There are also Milk Bar cookies in Ando-only flavors like the Shoop, which is doctored up with salt and pepper; another made with Ritz crackers simply called the Ritz; and a chocolate chip option.

Orders are placed through an app that was developed with Expa, a start-up lab cofounded by Uber's Garrett Camp. Fittingly, orders are being delivered via UberRUSH to a swath of Midtown East, but the Ando team has said that that could change in the future.

This isn't exactly Chang's first time at the delivery rodeo. Earlier this year, he helped launch Maple, a healthy lunch and dinner delivery service. But he isn't worried about being his own competition, telling The Verge, "It's a huge pie. I don't think anyone is ever going to have a monopoly on it."

Though, there are certainly a number of companies out there aiming for as much of the market as they can possibly gobble up. Amazon is now offering free delivery to its Prime customers from 350 restaurants in Manhattan, including Mile End, pizza legend John's of Bleecker Street and even Momofuku Milk Bar. The service is already under way in L.A., Chicago, SF and several other places.
