Lidl's Wine Voted Just As Good As Veuve Clicquot

Here's where you can get it for yourself

The march of budget-minded grocery stores doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon—right off the heels of Aldi's $8 rosé being named one of the best in the world, the chain's little brother, Lidl, is also being recognized for its wallet-friendly wines.

At this month's International Wine & Spirit Competition, Lidl's sparkling white wine, Crémant de Bourgogne Blanc NV, nabbed a prestigious Silver Outstanding award. For a $10 bottle, it's an already-impressive accolade, but consider that fellow winners include pricy Champagnes like the 2008 vintage of Veuve Clicquot (which costs more than six times as much), and you've got a real reason to flock to the store's wine aisle. According to the company, the bubbly bottle leans toward the drier end of the spectrum and has a lingering finish, making it perfect for summer aperitif hours.

The best part? Unlike Aldi's award-winning rosé, you can get your own version of this Crémant wine stateside. Lidl sells a U.S. variant, Los Andides Crémant de Loire, which recently won gold at the Indy International Wine Competition. Let's just say it's only a matter of time before Aldi and Lidl replace Trader Joe's as our go-to for inexpensive booze runs.
