Alan Cumming's Club Cumming Comes To NYC
Club Cumming is set to open in the East Village next month, and we've got the glittery details
Whether you know him as the Emcee in Cabaret, a series regular on The Good Wife or the greatest antagonist the Spy Kids franchise has ever known, Alan Cumming is an energetic and unforgettable actor. Now, he's branching out past stage and screen to bring a new cabaret club to NYC's East Village, aptly named Club Cumming.
As Food & Wine reports, the club will open in place of iconic gay club Eastern Bloc (Cumming has teamed up with owners Benjamin Maisani and Darren Dryden), which closed on August 6 after 12 years on E. Sixth St. Although Cumming announced plans for the permanent club back in April, a pop-up version of Club Cumming once existed in the actor's dressing room during an off-Broadway production of Cabaret, where Cumming would entertain friends and serve food and drinks, F&W writes.
Frequent visitors to the legendary LGBTQ-friendly Eastern Bloc will be excited to learn that Cumming intends to create a similar atmosphere of acceptance in this new club. According to nightlife producer Daniel Nardicio, "Alan wants Club Cumming to be a home for everyone of all ages, all genders, all sexualities, who all enjoy letting go and making some mischief. No judgments, no attitude, no rules, except kindness, acceptance and fun."
As Nardicio will also be in charge of programming for the club, he describes some of the fabulous events that guests can expect to experience at Club Cumming.
"I plan on programming some readings, live music and, of course, great DJ nights like Come Home with Ana Matronic (Scissor Sister fame)," he says. Additionally, "Femme, which is a gender-fluid dance party, and out-of-the-box stuff like a book club, piano nights and, of course, some sexier themed nights, like Bette, Bathhouse and Beyond, where Amber Martin recreates the opening-night set of Bette Midler at the Continental Baths for a mixed audience in towels."
We have to admit, we're intrigued. Nardicio says the scheduled reopening for the transformation from Eastern Bloc to Club Cumming will take place on September 15, but don't expect the opening party to last just one night. "We're going for an opening week!" he says.
In the meantime, curious patrons can sign up for email updates or follow the club on social media to learn about specials, events and openings.
