In-N-Out Hot Chocolate

The perfect complement to your Double-Double

In-N-Out, the sacred burger chain that's more West Coast religion than fast-food restaurant, is fairly predictable when it comes to its minimalist bible of items. Even throwing in that not-so-secret menu leaves a list most fans can count on their fingers, which is why we pay attention when there's a new addition to the red-and-white listing.

Two weeks ago, the company quietly introduced its first new item in 15 years: a cup of steaming hot chocolate you can add to your Double-Double order for just $1.60. According to company president Lynsi Snyder, the beverage is actually returning from a 50-year hiatus. "My grandparents, Harry and Esther Snyder, served it for many years beginning in the '50s. I'm not sure how it fell off the menu but it's part of our culture and something special for kids, and I'm happy that we're bringing it back," she tells The Orange County Register.

The eight-ounce drink uses cocoa powder sourced from Ghirardelli chocolate and even comes with the option to add mini marshmallows. It might not be as groundbreaking as the mythical Monkey-style burger or the bacon and avocado add-ons we were so dearly hoping for, but nevertheless, it's a welcome inclusion for winter.
