Van Leeuwen's Controversial Mac & Cheese Ice Cream Is Back
For avid ice cream fans, there are plenty of unusual flavors out in the world to try. From rare grape-flavored ice cream and Canada's specialty tiger ice cream to limited-time Jeni's ice cream flavors such as everything bagel and maple soaked pancakes, it might be hard to keep up with just how many flavors are on your bucket list. But for those who missed out on the attention-grabbing mac and cheese ice cream released by Van Leeuwen in July of 2021, the flavor is returning.
At the time, scoops of the mac and cheese ice cream were only available at Van Leeuwen locations in just four states — New York, New Jersey, Texas, and California (via Instagram). Lucky people in Union Square Park even got to try the unusual Kraft flavor for free. The rest of the country, meanwhile, attempted to place an online order with the ice cream company, but not all succeeded; as reported by Insider at the time, since so many people tried to order the mac and cheese ice cream, the Van Leeuwen website crashed.
This is where you can get the ice cream this time
Fortunately, the Kraft mac and cheese ice cream is making a comeback and is more readily accessible than ever, according to a press release received by Tasting Table. The famous flavor will be sold exclusively at 3,500 Walmart stores across the country in all 50 states during a 10-week rotation. Best of all, you can find the ice cream in the freezer aisle already, so no waiting for this release.
But Van Leeuwen's Walmart debut will not be solely marked by their mac and cheese ice cream. Instead, it will be just one of seven flavors hitting the shelves. Alongside mac and cheese pints, customers will also find flavors including Pizza, Hot Honey, Planet Earth, Bourbon Cherries Jubilee, Royal Wedding Cake, and Wild Blueberry Shortcake. So, those without the Van Leeuwen brand nearby can try some of their top flavors in addition to some of the more unusual ones.
These flavors will not be at Walmart forever, though. The brand does plan to update its flavors this summer.
