Everything You Need To Know About Nomad With Carlton McCoy
Carlton McCoy knows a thing or two about breaking the mold. As a disadvantaged child growing up in Washington D.C., McCoy never envisioned himself becoming a chef, master sommelier, or world traveler (per Robb Report). Despite the odds, he did all that and more, and now he is sharing his "journey of discovery" with the masses in a much-anticipated CNN documentary series appropriately titled "Nomad with Carlton McCoy."
When McCoy almost dropped out of high school, he couldn't have foreseen his future career as an elite culinarian and the first Black CEO of Heitz Cellar, a prestigious winery in California's Napa Valley. He stayed in school and found that he excelled in the culinary arts, but even after earning a scholarship to the Culinary Institute of America in New York, McCoy never felt like he fit into any box. According to a bio released by Heitz Cellar, McCoy continued to broaden his depth of knowledge by giving in to his love of adventure and traveling the world in search of extraordinary culinary experiences.
CNN is now inviting viewers to join McCoy as he travels in the States and abroad in his new documentary series celebrating diversity and authenticity.
Nomad with Carlton McCoy explores different cultures
In a recent press release, CNN announced that Carlton McCoy aims to show viewers how different foods, cultures, music, and art can be unique but still connect us. The six-part documentary series will follow the master sommelier as he travels the world, from Ghana to the Mississippi Delta, searching for new chefs, foods, beverages, and artists who are stepping outside the box just as he has done.
Viewers can experience various cultures and cuisine alongside the adventurous chef who hopes to highlight the differences and similarities of a diverse global community. McCoy says, "Given the state of the world, we hope Nomad provides some optimism that we can connect to one another in an authentic manner through these cultural pillars."
CNN's "Nomad with Carlton McCoy" will premiere on Sunday, May 1 at 10 p.m. EST/PST. The "Mississippi" episode will be available ahead of the premiere on April 26 via the CNN app and On Demand for pay TV subscribers.
