What Makes New Travel Show Taste Of The Border Unique
Fans of culinary road trip shows like "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" and "Parts Unknown" will soon be served some tasty travel-focused content coming soon to Discovery+, the home of Food Network shows like 'Triple D'. In a press release, the streaming service announced a slate of upcoming original programming, including a brand-new series hosted by award-winning chef Claudia Sandoval.
Chef Sandoval first rose to fame as the winner of season 6 of the Gordon Ramsay-helmed cooking competition show, "MasterChef." Following her win, Sandoval launched a successful catering company, Claudia's Cocina, and expanded her television portfolio as a judge on the hit Telemundo series, "MasterChef Latino."
The "Claudia's Cocina" cookbook author, who was born and raised in San Diego, California, credits her love of cooking to her mother and grandmother, who taught her to cook dishes reflective of their Mexican roots from a young age. Sandoval, whose family originated in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, channeled those cooking lessons into a culinary career centered around modernized coastal Mexican cuisine (via her bio on Chef Claudia Sandoval). Now, the television personality will have the opportunity to share those roots with a widespread streaming audience.
Chef Sandoval previously won season 6 of MasterChef U.S.
After the Discovery+ series was announced, the chef shared the news in a Tweet, writing: "Did you hear? I have a new show dropping on 5 de Mayo on [Discovery+]! Make sure you get your switches ready because we are gonna roll in on an Impala in the Heart of Chicano Park for a Taste of the Border!"
"Taste of the Border" will follow chef Sandoval as she travels along the U.S.-Mexico border, exploring the culinary landscapes of border towns stretching from Sandoval's hometown of San Diego to South Padre Island.
"Having grown up along the border herself, Claudia is uniquely suited to highlight the delicious and surprising food delighting locals and visitors, as she eats her way through a food road map and explores some of these towns," the streaming service wrote in the press release.
At each stop along the way, chef Sandoval will discover "how the food from each town showcases a blending of flavors and cultures from the U.S. and Mexico, as well as other unexpected influences." The Sandoval-hosted "Taste of the Border" will premiere on Discovery+ on May 5.
