Ikea Is Bringing A Meatball Topped Treat To Ohio's Donut Trail
Chances are, if you've been to Ikea, you've tried the brand's infamous Swedish meatballs, topped with a creamy, savory gravy and tart lingonberry sauce. But at one particular location — Ikea West Chester in Butler County, Ohio — the classic dish is being taken to a whole new level.
In honor of National Donut Day, Ikea West Chester is joining Butler County's "Donut Trail" — an attraction that, per its site, challenges visitors to try 13 of the county's best mom-and-pop donut shops. To complete the trail, you must visit all 13 stops and get a stamp from each in your Donut Trail passport. The passport can then be redeemed for a free Donut Trail t-shirt.
For the collaboration, Ikea West Chester will be serving up limited-edition donuts that come topped with a savory Swedish meatball. While it's certainly a surprising combination, Ikea is no stranger to unusual mashups. Last year, Ikea released a candle inspired by its Swedish meatballs, reported the New York Post. The launch, which celebrated the 10th anniversary of Ikea Family, allowed shoppers to fill their homes with the meatballs' iconic, savory scent.
How to get Ikea's limited-edition meatball donut
As a spokesperson for the brand notes, per Food & Wine, the Ikea donut will consist of "a light and fluffy base, lingonberry glaze, [and] lingonberry sauce." The sweet-and-savory concoction is then "topped with a delectable Ikea meatball or plant-based ball."
"It's something you need to try," says Ikea West Chester loyalty manager Kitalena Mason, per the publication. "This is a new take on iconic Ikea flavors, and we're excited to join the legendary Donut Trail in celebrating National Donut Day this year."
If you're hoping to get your hands on one of these donuts, get ready to head to Ohio. According to Food & Wine, Ikea's donut release will coincide with National Donut Day on June 3, 2022. These limited-edition donuts will be available at Ikea West Chester for two days only — on June 3 and June 4 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., while supplies last. The best part? These donuts will be available to guests free of charge.
