Insomnia Cookies Just Announced Its First-Ever Ice Cream Line

Insomnia Cookies launched in 2003 at the University of Pennsylvania, and opened its first brick-and-mortar location in 2006, according to the company's website. Since then, they have specialized in delivering warm, delicious cookies to anyone with a sweet tooth, at most hours of the day.

Founder Seth Berkowitz often craved sweets at night, but did not love facing the Pennsylvania wind chill to get them, reports HuffPost. The outlet reports that part of the popularity can be credited to the late-night cravings of college students — Berkowitz built his reputation by passing out samples to students — and still caters to this group with most locations open until 3:00 a.m.

Over the years, the company has expanded its menu to include vegan and gluten-free cookie options, and now, Insomnia Cookies is expanding its dessert line by adding ice cream — and a new line of ice cream-inspired cookies — to the mix. The release hits stores just in time for National Ice Cream Day, which is celebrated every third Sunday in July!

Satisfy your sweet tooth

Select Insomnia Cookies locations will now be carrying a variety of ice cream flavors, available for in-store purchase or delivery, per a press release. These flavors include Caramellionaire, Moon Tracks, Cookies 'N Dream, Dreamweaver, Minterstellar, Cookie D'ough — and of course, the classics, chocolate, and vanilla. The unique flavors feature bits of cookies folded into the ice cream, adding an extra dose of sweetness to each bite. In celebration of National Ice Cream Day, Insomnia will be giving a free scoop with any in-store purchase from July 15 to July 17.

The ice cream is currently launching at 65 Insomnia Cookies locations, with plans to expand to all stores nationwide soon. In the meantime, if your local Insomnia Cookies isn't serving scoops, you can grab one of Insomnia's ice cream-inspired cookies. Limited edition flavors like Hot Fudge Sundae, Root Beer Float, and Banana Split will be available in stores or for shipping through August 7. For a complete list of locations currently carrying the ice cream line, check out the Insomnia Cookies website.
