Trader Joe's Shoppers Are Excited By Its New Gluten-Free Shrimp

Gluten-free shoppers have something to celebrate this week, as one of the country's most popular grocery chains has unveiled a buzzy new wheat-free item (via YouGov). Eagle-eyed Trader Joe's aficionados were the first to spot the chain's latest frozen offering, which is a tasty alternative to the grocer's crispy battered Honey Walnut Shrimp.

In a post shared by two Trader Joe's fan Instagram accounts, the grocery influencers celebrated the arrival of the company's newest product — Gluten-Free Breaded Shrimp. "Get your cocktail sauce ready or better yet, let's make tacos with the crispy, tail-off round breaded shrimp," the post proclaimed.

The frozen shrimp, which is advertised as "crispy, tail-off round shrimp with a thin gluten-free breading," retails for $9.99 and is made with tapioca starch and coconut flour to achieve all of the crunch with none of the wheat flour. The post announcing the arrival of the product quickly racked up over 18,000 likes and hundreds of comments from excited gluten-averse Trader Joe's shoppers.

Fans voiced their excitement for the grocery chain's latest gluten-free offering

Some commenters praised the arrival of the product, like an Instagram user that wrote, "My dreams have been answered!" Another added, "Yummm now we just need the fried rice to be GF and then we have a meal! Can't wait to try! Picking it up today." Others that already had the chance to try the new product, shared their recommendations for how to use the breaded shrimp. One user commented, "Had them last night for shrimp tacos! They're so good," while another added, "these are so good! We use them for shrimp tacos (and we're not [gluten free])."

However, not all Trader Joe's shoppers were excited by the ingredients listed on the gluten-free shrimp label, like one Instagrammer that wrote, "I wish Trader Joe's would stop putting chemicals and highly processed oils in their food. ... I shop there often. But I won't be buying these and I'm gluten free, so it's disappointing."

While it's unclear whether the Gluten-Free Breaded Shrimp are here to stay or not, if the internet's excitement over the new product is any indication, the wheat-free shrimp just might become a new permanent resident of the frozen food aisle.
