The Unique Ingredients In The Dos Equis Canned Margarita
We already know the margarita is a versatile cocktail, delicious when paired with so much more than just Mexican food. The classic frozen margarita pulls together tequila, lime juice, agave nectar, and orange liqueur (like triple sec, Gran Marnier, or Cointreau) to create a cocktail that's a little sweet, a little tangy, a little salty, and a whole lot of fun. Since the margarita isn't a terribly difficult cocktail to make and doesn't really require fancy bartending skills to perfect, how can you improve on the famous beverage? By making it portable!
The RTD (Ready To Drink) category of alcoholic beverages has seen enormous growth which only accelerated during the Covid pandemic, according to a Beverage Dynamics article about why 2022 is the summer of the RTD. Citing reasons like convenience, a focus on sustainable packaging, and premium ingredients, pre-mixed cocktails now crowd the shelves in retail shops all over the nation. But what is it about the new Dos Equis canned margarita that's special?
Dos Equis uses authentic margarita ingredients
Thrillist reviewed the new Dos Equis Classic Lime Margarita and called it "the best canned cocktail we've tried." They noted that while some Ready to Drink beverages use flavored malt liquor as the source of alcohol, Dos Equis uses real Blanco tequila, fresh lime juice, and other natural flavors to deliver an authentic margarita experience in a can. Dos Equis revealed that their Blanco tequila is sourced from Jalisco, Mexico.
Describing the Classic Lime Margarita as "refreshing" and "light," Thrillist elaborated by explaining: "The whopping 10% ABV not only mirrors the boozy experience of a real marg, but its subtle, sweet lime flavor and real Blanco tequila mirrors the experience of a good, real marg." The Dos Equis margarita gets high praise in particular for choosing real lime over synthetic lime for flavor. Sure, pursuing the perfect recipe for a DIY margarita can be an enjoyable endeavor, but it's hard to beat the convenience of a real margarita in a can.
