This is the basic formula we go with: approximately 1 scoop of ice cream to 1 ounce of liquor, topped with soda. Feel free to adjust the amounts to your liking: Add a little more ice cream or soda to lighten it up, or a half ounce more liquor to pack a boozier punch. The ratio may also depend on the size of the glass in terms of how many scoops of ice cream get doled out, so modify the booze as needed.

Here are our favorite flavor combinations:

(1) Mexican Chocolate Ice Cream + Amaro + Cream Soda

(2) Salted Caramel Ice Cream + Spiced Rum + Root Beer

(3) Vanilla Gelato + Port + Black Cherry Soda

(4) Strawberry Ice Cream + Rye Whiskey + Ginger Ale
